This weekend we bumped into one amazing fast rising Ugandan Afropop and RnB singer. Her name Martha Mukisa. Sharing her success story and musical experience with us in a candid interview.
Q). Who is Martha Mukisa in a few words. Please introduce yourself.
A). Born 24th September in Kampala Uganda, Martha Mukisa is an Afropop, R&B, and Reggae musician
Q). Good to hear so whats the genesis of your fast growing music career?
A). I would call it prowess with determination owing to my skills in singing, songwriting and stage performance. Having been actively involved with music since 2009 I believe it comes no better than that. The experience crowns it all.
Q). Many are fascinated by how fast you rise the ladder despite being of a young age.
A). Yes of course I’m born and raised in Uganda by Ugandan parents. I’m the last born in my family having grown up in a religious setting. My career began in church at an early age so that explains the source of experience.
Q). Please tell us about your education background.
A). I am a Diploma holder in Textile designing and Technology at Kyambogo University.
Q). Congratulations, otherwise in a few words how would you describe your personality ?
A). I am an obedient, easy to work with, self-oriented and a self-disciplined talent.
Q). I can definitely see that from where I sit. Are you a self driven artiste solo freelance or you are under some musical outfit?
A). Of course I am signed. I work under Black Magic Entertainment, record label which has produced some of the biggest brands in the East African industry. Not just Uganda.
Q). Are you flexible enough to stretch beyond Afropop and RnB?
A). Its quite true my musical style is primarily a combination of Afropop and R&B but I do not actually conform to a particular genre of music. That is why my musical prowess covers different genres, based on the inspiration source of the day.
Q). As a growing and fast rising female artiste in East Africa, which particular bigger brands do you look up to in terms of musicians or just personalities?
A). Of course Whitney Houston, Beyonce, Tiwa Savage, Wizkid, Juliana Kanyamozi, John Blaq are just but a few I must say I listen to and follow alot.
Q). So which is your most memorable stage performance most recently?
A). Blankets and Wines having performed alongside Maleek Berry. The crowd was quite appreciative of my work. He blessed me to be the next big star of my generation. You just don’t know how that feels, do you …
Q). In that case what’s in store for us as far as new projects are concern?
A). My first EP titled ‘International Local’ is expected to be a crossover album to the continent and east Africa as a whole. I look forward to feature the biggest acts in the continent on this EP
