Born Benjamin Etoro Abasi is Nigerian Afro-pop musician Debanja. The founder and owner of the TMS (The Mustard Seed) Music record label is a serial entrepreneur and philanthropist.
Dabenja who hails from Akwa Ibom state was born and raised in Lagos.
Having graduated from the school of Business, Debanja is a Business Administration graduate from the University of East London (UEL).
His career dates back to singing in the choir at the age of eight with songs including ‘Select’, ‘Sugarbaby’, ‘Take Away’ and his 2019 hit single ‘Yakata’, which was performed at the ‘Afrika Shrine’ during the annual Felabration Musical Concert in 2017.
His 2011 debut single titled “Terere” topped charts in Malaysia earning him a brand ambassadorial deal for Pagepedia, thereafter winning the AEA award for West African/Central African Act of the Year in Malaysia.
Debanja would later collaborate with Terry G to release “All 4 Love” which became an instant fans’ favourite and won Best Collaboration Award at the African Entertainment Awards, Malaysia.
The wave-making music act who is also into agriculture, real estate, and oil/gas chain of businesses has confessed music is is all time favourite among all.
The name Debanja was crafted from his real names Benjamin David Etoro Abasi, after merging his first and middle name.
The fast risen star grew up as the son of a Church pastor tagging along loving parents who worked hard to put food on the table.
He takes after his parents hard work. And always wanted to be successful and wealthy despite growing up from the ghetto.
Growing up in the church environment would give him an upper hand in the choir therefore catapulting his music career due to interest and serious participation.
Debanja has recorded well over 80 songs and just 5 singles have been released so far. He is currently looking forward to dropping an album this year.
Debanja’s parents have always been supportive of their children’s dreams, so he had their blessing when he began his music career.
Debanja boasts of a kind of music genre falling under Afro-pop and Afro redefined highlife inspired by experiences he had and things around him.
